I remember the first time I saw a super mario tattoo. It was the late 90s. I was floored. I had never seen a tattoo that wasn’t your standard tattoo imagery. It showed me that the sky was the limit, anything could be tattooed (A lot of people have yet to realize this). This person loved that game so much they’d sit though hours of pain and wear it for the rest of their life. I really respect that sort of authenticity. Doing something different and REALLY committing to it!

The classic tattoo designs all represented stories. But there are plenty of stories been written  since the tales of ancient mariners. Minecraft is the new Rock of ages and Hello Kitty is the new Lion of Judah. I myself can certainly relate more to Homer Simpson than a roman centurion.

Symbols from our past take us back to a simpler time. Saturday morning cartoons, a bowl of cereal and zero responsibilities sure would be great right about now. The eighties and nineties were my formative years. Ninja Turtles and The Predator give me the warm fuzzies. But tattooing has introduced me to the sacred tomes of newer generations. Legends such as Dragon Ball Z, Adventure Time and Spongebob Squarepants have all been ritually honoured through tattoo.
