Why so many naked ladies? What are you, some kind of pervert? Women have been artistic subjects since the dawn of man. Since the 30,000 year old Venus of Willendorf. And in every culture (at least the ones that allowed it) ever since. Artists depict women for all sorts of reasons, as muses, symbols of beauty, virtue and nature, social critique, or just training.

Life drawing is the foundation of an artistic practice. Figure drawing is one of the most challenging subjects but rewarding when you actually nail it. To quote the immortal Aesop Rock:

You can’t imagine the stars that align
When a forearm starts foreshortening right
Or a torso hung on a warping spine
In proportion reads as warm and alive

Compared to the boxier male figure, the female body has a lot more s-curves and rounded edges. The rounded arc of an artist’s stroke naturally creates curves. Anatomy creating anatomy, the fractal pattern of life continues. As above, so below. When we are placing a tattoo, that same flow is exactly what we are looking for to complement most every part of the body.
